Lite Rock salutes the ex-smoker. With all the other pressing concerns making news this year, the Great American Smokeout didn’t get much advance publicity. But today is Smokout Day. The day you’re encouraged to at least quit for the day. Maybe the reason the Smokeout doesn’t get that much attention is because so many people have already quit. Face it, smoking was never really cool, even though it was marketed to make us think it was, and now it’s just pathetic. Quitting is really tough. But if you’re still in the crowd standing out the cold, blocking the entrance, puffing away; try to go without today and look in to getting some help to quit for good. If for no other reason, depending on how much you smoke you could save $1000 next year on cigarettes you don’t buy. Lite Rock salutes the ex-smoker.

The annual Lite Rock Holiday Food Drive is this Saturday from 10A to 2P at the Somer’s Point Acme for the Community Food Bank of South Jersey. From their headquarters in Egg Harbor Township they distribute an average of 75,000 pounds of groceries every week to local people who are hungry. As you know, contributions are way down this year, while the need has increased. That makes this Saturday’s Food drive our most important ever. If you CAN help, please do. . We are collecting non-perishables, cans of food and frozen turkeys or cash. By the way, everyone who donates is in the running for tickets to see Dancing with the Stars or the TSO Holiday Show. More importantly is the plain fact that if you give food this year, some otherwise hungry people will food this winter. That’s why I ask for your help this Saturday from 10A to 2PM at the Lite Rock Holiday Food Drive at the Somer’s Point Acme.
