It's a fact; seat belts save lives and reduce injuries in a crash. A properly positioned seat belt sits low on the hips and pelvis and the shoulder strap firmly across the shoulder and chest. A loose fitting seatbelts offers little to no protection. Even more dangerous is placing the shoulder strap behind your back or under your arm. This reduces the 3 point restraint to a 2 point or lap belt only. Lap belts have been eliminated from production because they were found to cause abdominal and spinal cord injuries in a crash. That is why the 3 point safety system belt has become the most important automotive restraint system worldwide, saving an estimated one million lives so far.
